India Kawasaki has launched a special KRT edition of its 2017 Ninja 650 with an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 5.49 lakh, making it around Rs 16,000 more expensive than the standard model.

While KRT stands for Kawasaki Racing Team, there is no such racing mechanism added in the edition. However, the version gets a new lime green livery which is inspired by their race machine.

Speaking on the new addition, Yutaka Yamashita, Managing Director of India Kawasaki Motors, said “The Ninja 650 KRT edition has done remarkably well in the USA, Europe and in other countries recently. We have got a good pool of Ninja 650 customers here in India as well. Those who were planning to buy Ninja 650, now have got another option with this new edition.”

While the 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650 gets its sharper look from the bigger ZX-10R supersport motorcycle, it actually is a versatile sportsbike for daily riding as well as light touring. Along with a sporty full-body fairing, the bike offers an upright riding position and a low seat height of 790mm.

The Ninja 650 comes with a manageable power delivery from a 649cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that churns out 68PS at 8,000rpm and a peak torque of 65.7Nm at 6,500rpm. It comes with features like a slipper clutch, adjustable rear monoshock, dual front and single rear disc brakes and antilock braking system (ABS) as standard.
There is no direct competition for the Ninja 650 in the Indian market, especially in its price bracket. The only bike it can compete with is the Honda CBR650F which is a more premium offering and expensive by more than Rs 2 lakh.
