Mumbai: Entire social media was abuzz with excitement when Balakrishna actually paid a visit to Amitabh Bachchan on the sets of ‘Sarkar 3’. Chennai: Mohanlal's smash hit Pulimurugan is all set to release in Telugu as Manyam Puli. The film will hit the screens on October 21. The first look poster was revealed on social media by Peter Hein, who handled the fight choreography for the film. Pulimurugan has already set new box office records and is being touted as the first Malayalam film that might enter the 100 crore club. The film reportedly earned Rs 30 crore in its opening week. Telugu actor Jagapati Babu took to Facebook to share his excitement about the film. "Extremely excited to be a part of Mohanlal Garu's Pulimurugan that is already creating waves at the box office. Currently dubbing for the Telugu version which will be out soon!" Mohanlal made his foray into Telugu cinema earlier this year with Manamantha. He followed it up with Janatha Garage where he teamed up with Junior NTR. Janatha Garage was a huge success, earning over Rs 100 crore at the box office and widening Mohanlal's Telugu fan base.
Mumbai: Sushant Singh Rajput's juggernaut as MS Dhoni at the box office goes on and the film has hit the fortuitous mark of Rs 200 crore. This makes MS Dhoni The Untold Story the most successful biopic of all time in Bollywood, leaving behind Farhan Akhtar's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag which had grossed Rs 109 crore by the end of its run. The producers said the film has grossed Rs 175 crore domestic and Rs 29 crore overseas till date. The biopic was released in Tamil, Telugu and Marathi given Dhoni's pan-India appeal. The biopic of the limited over captain for the Indian cricket team, has grossed close to double of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and shows no sign of slowing down even after two weeks of its release. The film has benefitted from the lack of competition in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Mirzya which didn't trouble the cash registers too much. MS Dhoni The Untold Story is well on its way to becoming the second most successful movie of the year behind Salman Khan’s Sultan which grossed close to Rs 584 crore worldwide. The second being Airlift, which looks within the reach of the MS Dhoni biopic since it has another two weeks to cover the lead before the Diwali releases. The film got middling reviews in terms of not really solving the mystery behind Captain Cool, but seems to have touched the audiences across the country. Actor Sushant has won rave reviews for his performance as Dhoni. The biopic is directed by Neeraj Pandey, and produced by Dhoni's associate Arun Pandey and Fox Star.

According to industry sources, the much-awaited sci-fi movie will be available in 3D. While presenting films in 3D has become a norm in Hollywood, the Indian film industry is still catching up with the trend. However, in the light of the massive budget, 2.0 is going to be a landmark film in the three-dimensional category in India. It will also be Rajinikanth’s first 3D film. Chennai: October 7 2016 saw a mighty clash between Mollywood superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty after 15 years. Fans were waiting to know, who would emerge a winner at the box office. And now we have the answer. While both movies have received positive reviews, Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan is racing ahead only to leave behind Mammootty’s film. On day 1 itself Mohanlal’s movie beat Mammotty’s film as it went on to collect Rs 4.8 crore, at the Kerala Box office as opposed to 2.03 from Thoppil Joppan. What’s more it also beat Mammotty’s Kasaba day 1 collection, Vijay’s Theri day 1 collection. The movie has been lauded for its direction, visuals, Mohanlal’s performance. Everyone can’t stop gushing about the movie. In response to the positive review, Mohanlal expressed his happiness over the movie’s performance –“Again you all made my day. Feeling good to get good reviews about Pulimurugan. My hearty felicitations to the entire crew of Pulimurugan.” On day 2 as per reports the film has crossed 7 crore and now reports state, it has crossed the 10 crore mark in 3 days. As for Thoppil Joppan, the movie has collected Rs 4.75 crore. So as of now, Pulimurugan is winning. History repeats itself as even in 2001, it was Mohanlal’s film that had emerged a winner. The best part, while PuliMurugan has just hit screens, it’s also competing with Lal’s previous movie Oppam that is still running in theatres. So far the movie has collected Rs 29 crore in 21 days. So it’s like a battle between Pulimrurgan and Oppam now. But at the end of the day, it’s a win win for the Malayalam superstar. Set in the exotic jungles of Vietnam, Pulimururgan is about a lorry driver who ends up becoming a wild hunter to fight down his enemy – the tigers of the jungle. There is reportedly a 20 minute climax sequence between Mohanlal and a real tiger that has been choreographed by the acclaimed Peter hein.
Mumbai: Academy award-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty says the upcoming Rajinikanth starrer "2.0" features massive action sequences of international standard. Directed by Shankar, "2.0" is a sequel to the 2010 blockbuster "Robot". The sci-fi action-drama features Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar in the role of an antagonist. Resul says he was amazed with what he saw when he visited the film set and will spend a lot of time creating the perfect sound for the movie. "Technically, the action in '2.0' is a high level of achievement. I went to the set and what I saw was amazing. I've gone through the narration and the previews. Next year most of my time will be invested in creating '2.0'," Resul told PTI in an interview. The 45-year-old sound designer feels the movie will consolidate position of Indian films at a time when most of the Hollywood biggies are raking in huge money at the domestic box office. "I think a film like '2.0' will consolidate our position from the international perspective of filmmaking. I have reasons to say this when you look at the last five years how Hollywood films are faring in the Indian domestic market. "When 'Avatar' came out it collected nearly Rs 58 crore from the Indian market, last year 'Fast and Furious' came and collected Rs 108 crore and when it came to 'Jungle Book' it was nearly Rs 200 crore." Resul has been associated with Indian as well as international films, ranging from "Highway", "Ra.One" to "Slumdog Millionaire" and "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel". The acclaimed sound designer feels Hollywood biggies make huge money here without shooting in the country and if Indian filmmakers don't pull up their socks, the industry will be "doomed." "These films are taking away the resources from this country without spending a single penny on making of that film. It is high time that Indian filmmakers who want our film industry to survive, to look at this aspect and change our filmmaking to a different level." "People today are exposed to first rate content. They are going to compare our product with what is coming out in the west. If we are not able to consolidate our domestic market, we will be doomed as an industry in the next ten years." It is in this regard, Resul says, that the Rajinikanth starrer will play a key role. "That is where the sanctity of a film like '2.0' comes in. Someone like Shankar, Rajinikanth and Akshay have understood this aspect and have come together to make something. Looking at the product people will say 'oh we can also make such films'," he said. "2.0" sees another academy award winner working for it, music composer AR Rahman. The film is being produced in three languages - Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and is scheduled to release next year.
Mumbai: While MS Dhoni: The Untold Story continues to make its way towards entering the Rs 100-crore club, the Maharashtra government has now made the film tax-free in their state. A few days earlier, the state governments of Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh made the Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer tax-free as well. MS Dhoni: The Untold Story producer Arun Pandey said in a statement, "We are humbled and thankful to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his team for making Mahis biopic tax-free in the state. Mahis journey is inspirational and through this more people will get to see the movie and see the life of this amazing sportsman." The Neeraj Pandey film released in theatres on September 30 and since then, it has earned Rs 94.13 crore up until Thursday (October 6). MS Dhoni: The Untold Story stars Sushant Singh Rajput in the titular role of India's limited overs cricket captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni.

Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam actor Mohanlal, who has been holding on to the superstar tag along with his arch onscreen rival Mammootty for the past nearly three decades, now wishes to do what the latter did to launch his son Dulquer Salmaan into films. Pranav has already donned the greasepaint in a few films and also worked behind the camera. Mohanlal is said to be invested in his son's launch. "He is now carefully reading quite a number of scripts and appears to be serious to launch him quite well. He knows that expectations from his son would be sky high and a small set back could well be tough to make a comeback," said a source in the know of things. Pranav won the 2002 Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist for his role in the film Punarjani directed by Major Ravi. He later went on to do two more films and then decided to concentrate on his studies. After that Pranav decided to try his luck behind the camera and worked as an assistant to Jeetu Joseph in two of his films, the last one being Life of Josutty, in 2015. The challenge before Lal according to another source is that even though the two superstars maintain a mature and cordial relationship, there is an intense healthy competition between them in all spheres of life. "Salman's first film Second Show in 2012, even though did not make a noise in the box office, Mammootty ensured that his son is given more confidence and with his next film Ustad Hotel, the message was loud and clear that Salman is here to stay. Since then, he has established himself and now no longer needs any prop up from his superstar dad," said the source. Lal who has his own production house and a huge support from within the industry might not find it difficult to launch his son, as anyone would oblige him. "But, he prefers not to do that, as he knows by his own experience that merit and hard work alone will be able to sustain an actor. Hence he is very particular about the story and also the script and is now concentrating on his son now, as his Onam block buster, Oppam, directed by his friend Priyadarshan, has turned out to be a roaring success," said the source. Incidentally Salman clicked when he was 26, the same age as Pranav is now.
Mumbai: Amidst the celebration of his recent success, the Mohanlal-starrer Oppam, director Priyadarshan has confirmed that after a break of three years from Bollywood, he is coming back with a project. The film will star Akshay Kumar in the lead role. The director, who last wore his director’s hat in Bollywood for Rangrezz starring Jackky Bhagnani, is working on a family entertainer, which will be produced by Rohit Shetty. Reportedly, the 59-year-old director said that the film will be on the lines of the hilarious comedies the director-actor duo has done together in the past. There is no clarity on what this project would be. There is no confirmation on the other leads of the film but the rumours are rife that it may also star Paresh Rawal. Priyadarshan is apparently also working on a remake of the Tamil hit Visaranai, which was recently selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The duo of Akshay- Priyadarshan has given quite a many hits together among which are Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhag, De Dana Dan, Garam Masala and Bhool Bhulaiyya. With Oppam marking 90th film of the National Award-winning director, Priyadarshan is reportedly aiming to make a century soon, which he claims to be one of his dreams. The film, which will be written by Priyadarshan and the Chennai Express writer Yunus, will be shot in Mumbai and Punjab. This untitled project will mark seventh project of the Hera Pheri director and the Khiladi Kumar together. The movie will go on floors by March 2017.
