Bengaluru: Blume Ventures, with participation of four other angel investors in a Pre-Series A round of funding, has invested Rs 4 crore in Mumbai-based online wedding shopping portal, The Wedding Brigade.
The capital infused into the venture will be allocated towards enhancing product and services offerings, growth activities and acquiring talent.
The Wedding Brigade (formerly known as Indear) was founded by Sanna Vohra in 2014 as a platform that let users purchase wedding apparel, jewellery, gifts and other essentials.
The company aggregates content, products and services directly from wedding vendors and designers, and organizes it in an innovative manner in order to simplify the wedding planning process.
The Wedding Brigade will continue to operate as an aggregator, but will shift from a marketplace model to a selectively curated model. “We have decided to do a thick layer of filtering to eliminate all the noise,” said Vohra.
According to Sajid Fazalbhoy, Principal at Blume Ventures, the second largest expense for an Indian family post purchase of a home is a wedding. “Though the market opportunity is huge, it is being served by a few mall fragmented players,” he said.
Currently, Indear’s 17-member team will look to expand to other cities such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai and introduce new categories such as photographers, caterers and more.
